Jonathan makes All-State Choir!

Jonathan was named to the Texas All-State Mixed Choir at the Area Auditions in Midland. He placed 4th chair in the Bass 2 section. Now it's on to San Antonio for the TMEA convention where the Mixed Choir will perform on Saturday, February 14th at 9:00 PM.

It was so hard...

...getting up for school today after our two-week Christmas break. It didn't help that the weather is cold and damp.

We have a busy week ahead of us getting all our selections finalized for the Solo and Ensemble Contest. It's going to be a busy semester!

Fall Concert 08

Jonathan takes on the two-pound burger!

On our Region choir audition trip last weekend, we ate at Michael's in Midland, a restaurant known for great burgers, among other things. Jonathan was bragging that he could finish a Tall-City burger, which is made with two one-pound patties.

Quite frankly, I scoffed at his claims. Boy, was I wrong! Not only was he able to finish it, but he actually did it without looking miserable.

Last year, on this same trip, we witnessed another student from another school eat the same burger, and he was gagging with the last few bites! Made me gag just to see him struggle to finish it.

But Jonathan was another story! He finished strong! Here are some pictures to prove it.

First day of school!

It's always hard to accept the fact that summer vacation is over, but the first day of school has come and gone. It was a good day, generally speaking. I'm excited about my choirs this year. I think it's going to be a good year.

The good thing about this week is that it ends with a three-day weekend!

Spring trip 08, part 4 of 4

The final post of Kansas' trip down memory lane.

COMPETITION:

Usually Spring Trip is the chance to get away from the stress of school and the ways of the world and just go off somewhere and do so many things you wouldn't normally do. The competition side of it all is usually also part of the blow off... but this year it felt a little different.. It felt like it truly meant something. My pride in Choir and my passion to sing and everything it takes to be successful was on the line. It seemed as though my nerves were going to take over my body and make me enable to perform... but I along with many other members calmed them down... and decided to lay everything on the line and just sing like we knew how....!!! And from the results it shows that we "KNEW HOW". We did such an amazing job at delivering the passion that was required of each performance. I have never felt so musical in my life... I believe that there on that stage in Houston, Texas was where we showed that not only did we deserve to be on this trip to relax... but we deserved to represent Lake View High School and the Choir Program itself. We really stood out among the other choirs... Not only did the LV Choir take home 1st place trophies, but every since performing arts group on the trip took home glorious trophies..... we all worked our keesters off and it showed.... So upon receiving our awards we really were able to take the time and appreciate what we had done, appreciate our efforts, appreciate our directors, and appreciate our God given abilities to be musicians.

CLOSING STATEMENT:

So... if you ask me or another Senior who went on this trip I'm sure you will come across the same answer as to whether or not this trip was worth all the time, money and hard work we had put forth.. well the answer is of course... it was an amazing trip... and wouldn't have missed it for the world... we really behaved professionally in public and even when it seemed as though no one was watching. Everyone performed as if there was no tomorrow... (which did come) and we all bonded in ways that are unexplainable... SPRING TRIP 2008 to HOUSTON was the best one Yet!!!

So as the Seniors took their final walk across the stage in late May they left behind something great... a whole performing arts group with talent that is noticeable to all... Although this past years group was really spectacular and can never be replaced.... they have planted a seed that will continue to grow and therefore will make Lake View continue to be a recognized, tradition making and blessed school.

Spring trip 08, part 3 of 4

Kansas continues to reminisce about our spring trip.

ENTERTAINMENT:

ASTROS...

oooooooooo... the best part... So one of my favorite things was the Houston Astros Game... once again a first for a lot of people... it was so much fun because we were one huge blob of people in the stands, yet because the stadium is sooo huge it didn't have a real impact on the audience... We actually had a pretty good view.. a little off to the right and of course really far down was home base... so we really got to see all the action happening.!!!

NASA:

NASA was really cool because we were able to get to experience it as if we were in space. We were able to view air carriers up close and even touch them. Also we were taught the history of the space center and were able to feel the emotions that others felt before us... Our tour guides were amazing they really seemed sincere to their job and showed us through their actions and their words that they really had a passion for their job.. and for space! It made the whole experience more enjoyable...!!

PARKS:

We went to an amusement park called "Kemah Boardwalk "; this was quite some fun. Everyone was able to break into groups and do as they pleased... the park reminded me of a carnival... the same kind of food's, the same kind of games.. and the same kind of rides. Man what a blast.

Also we traveled over to Galveston to Schlitterbahn... it was the smaller of all the parks but still pretty sweet...We stayed their for way too many hours considering most students did not wear sun screen...which resulted in the lazy pool over and over and finally we got tired of getting out and aiming to do something else but failing and resulting to the lazy pool... so we eventually stayed...!!

One cool park thingy that we went to before the Schlitterbahn experience was quite something else... We were able to split off and either go the Aquarium or the Rain forest, or watch a 3D movie... man there were so many lovely options... This was cool because we were only there for a couple of hours.. therefore we didn't get bored with it. Also it was neat to be able to see animals in a way that you never had before....I believe that the group as a whole took over 2,000 pictures just in this small time phrame alone.... their were so many beautiful sights... from monkeys, to birds, from sea horses to sea turtle...polar bears to penguins... and much more....it really was pretty beautiful!

Kansas Calhoun shares her memories of our last spring trip to Houston.

SLEEP:

Well we didn't have too much of it...I wish I could say that due to the fact that we left town so early that everyone on our bus was completely knocked out was true, but unfortunately it's not... hardly anyone way sleepin... there was just so much talkin to do.. and so much eatin that need to go on...(haha). So on the way to Houston all in between and on the way back the titled "CHOIR BUS" did not sleep...well at least no more than 2 hours or so...

Now when it comes to bedtime in our rooms lets just say that was scarce to come by also... The first night we arrived at the hotel we were immediately addressed by our sponsors that the hotel had no water until 5 o'clock the next morning. As much as we all wanted to believe that our sponsors were lying we had to face the hard truth that they were actually tellin the truth... So off to our rooms we went... with absolutely no possible chance to take a shower and wash away all the sweat, dirt and BO. It was so disgusting cause we had been up for about 24 hours being active and having fun sweatin our lives out and then to find out NO SHOWER.. well that was like the worst possible deal ever... But not only was our showering effected... so was our water usage.... We couldn't get water out of the fountains if we were thirsty.. we couldn't brush our teeth and fight the on coming cavities.... heck worst of alllllllllll.........we couldn't use the toilet...well cause it wouldn't flush....so yeah this whole first night at the hotel was a nightmare... But I can say it was incredibly fun to watch what some of the students were doing in order to make up for not having water..... like getting ice from the machine to let melt so we could have water to flush the toilet... of use soda to brush their teeth... it was quite interesting just watchin them panic.... blah blah blah... so anyways back to the sleep issue. So as you can tell their was hardly any sleep the first eventful night but that changed slightly over the next 2 as we were offered more time to sleep, but had to choose if we would use it or not...!!! I don't know for sure about the other rooms but I do know that my room repeatedly keep getting in trouble for not going to bed.... so yeah... sleep was the last thing we did on this trip..!!!

MORE EATS / ACTUAL FOOD:

So as a group we went to the ever so popular Hard Rock Cafe... that was fun because it was a relaxed joint and it was inside.. There was plenty of room for everyone to sit... well except for the fact that my table seemed to have about 4 too many people crowded into it.... and that's too many when at this point in our day all we wanted to do was relax and eat.... So anyways we also went to Joe's Crab Shack... which turned out to be a first time experience for a lot of individuals... The food was amazing... everyone received huge portions that were impossible to finish and for those who did finish well they were the one's to pick off of the leftovers of the girls... hehe... What was fun about Joe's is they turned up the music and tons of students stood up on a platform and did the Macarena... yeah embarrassing but fun... We ate other places.. I just don't remember where exactly.. but I'm sure it was good food.. ha!!!!!
